Collonges visits Alder Hey Children's Hospital

LIVERPOOL'S Alder Hey Hospitalhas given a warm
welcome to Neptune Collonges, winner of the world's famous
steeplechase, the John Smith's Grand National, in 2012. Neptune Collonges, who won in one of the most exciting and closest finishes
ever in last year's race, will be paraded outside the hospital by
his trainer Paul Nicholls and owner John Hales.
The 2012 champion was also joined at the children's
hospital by one of the Jockey's taking part in 2013 race as Mick
Fitzgerald just before the visit said:- "I've been coming to
Alder Hey for so many years now; it's become part of the Grand
National experience! When I was riding, I found the visit
particularly humbling; seeing what the patients and their families
were going through put a real perspective on things and made me
realise there was more to life than racing! Now I'm a dad myself it
has even more relevance – the work they do is inspiring!"

are delighted to once again be the official charity partner of the
John Smith's Grand National. Our long standing partnership with one
of the most popular meetings in the racing calendar is a fantastic
opportunity to raise the profile of our charity and will help us to
support Alder Hey Hospital in delivering leading edge care to

will be able to join us this year on what is always an exciting and
popular visit for our patients and families. On behalf of the

A FUN DAY OUT FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY
IT is just days away... the 5th Riverside
Steam and Vintage Vehicle Rally returns to Riverside Holiday Park
this month, with more attractions than ever before for the whole
family to enjoy. That is correct... This years event has
over 30 FULL STEAM Engines, a vintage carousel and the local band
with national acclaim, the one and only Lancashire Hopots, located
in the Real Ale Beer Tent! The organisers are
continuously striving to introduce exciting new exhibits to the
rally and this year will see approximately 30 full size steam
engines, including Fred Dibnah's famous steam roller, Betsy and his
iconic Land Rover. Of the 500 vintage vehicles on display,
including cars, trucks, tractors, motorbikes and military vehicles,
one of the stars of the show is set to be the world renowned Austin
Healey 100/s car, often referred to as 'Black Beauty'.
Hand built in 1956 in Warwick, and with production limited to just
50,only 20 of these magnificent models have survived around the
world. There will also be a vintage fairground, complete with
a steam galloper, donkey rides trade stands, food outlets, a ducking
stool and other live activities to entertain the whole family. If
rally go-ers are feeling particularly strong, they can try their
hand at the tug of war for a prize fund of £100. The very popular
beer tent, introduced last year, will return to quench visitors'
thirsts. Whilst enjoying a pint or 2, rally go-ers can also relax
and watch the wide range of lve music, during which The Lancashire
Hotpots will be playing - back by popular demand... Aunt
Nellie's Tea Room returns to provide the family with rest,
relaxation and refreshment. A traditional tea room, complete with
homemade cakes, period costumed table service and music that will
take you back in time. In addition to the usual palm court piano
player, there will also be performances from the George Formby
society. Serious rally visitors can even stay the weekend,
enjoying the attractions by day and sampling the beer tent and
relaxing to the live music at night before retiring for the evening.

is organised by 5 local businessmen and raises much needed funds for
local charities. To date, over £130,000 has been donated to worthy
causes in the region, £32,000 of this was raised at last year's
event alone, and 2013 looks set to be an even bigger and better

Hillsborough
memorials for the 96
LIVERPOOL will mark the 24th anniversary of
the Hillsborough tragedy with 2 permanent memorials to the 96 people
who lost their lives. Families of the victims will come
together in the City Centre on Sunday, 14 April 2013, the day before
the anniversary, for 2 special ceremonies, which will dedicate a
special clock which has been installed at Liverpool Town Hall and a
memorial monument which has been erected on Old Haymarket, opposite
World Museum.
Mayor Joe Anderson, together with the Lord Mayor of Liverpool,
Sharon Sullivan, will lead a private ceremony at the Town Hall for
the dedication of the clock at 12 noon. The ornate 1780s piece from
National Museums Liverpool's collections was made by renowned clock
maker John Clifton. The mahogany 'long case clock'
stands 8 feet tall and is intricately decorated with floral images.
The hands on its 13" arch dial, which features the sun and moon
rising, will be frozen at 3.06pm, the time that the FA Cup
semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest on 15 April 1989
was stopped. The Town Hall ceremony will also include the
lighting of candles and prayers.
The commemorations will then proceed to Old Haymarket, where the
memorial monument will be officially dedicated at a public ceremony
at 2pm. Created by sculptor Tom Murphy, the 7 foot bronze structure
features the words:- "Hillsborough Disaster; we will remember
them", along with the names of all 96 Liverpool FC
supporters who died on the Leppings Lane terraces.
The Hillsborough Justice Campaign commissioned artist Tom Murphy to
create the monument which it is formally donating to the City. The
completion of this tribute to Hillsborough victims has been made
possible because of the support and donations given to the HJC from
across the world.
The Old Haymarket ceremony will give families and members of the
public the chance to see the monument for the 1st time.
Mayor of Liverpool, Joe Anderson said:- "We will never forget
those who lost their lives at Hillsborough, or the impact the
disaster has had on their bereaved families. The anger, pain and
sorrow they have felt for the past 24 years is shared by everyone in
Liverpool, and by thousands of others across Merseyside, across the
country and around the world. That's why it's important the City has
these permanent memorials, as a symbol of our solidarity and support
for the families of the 96 and as a permanent reminder of the long
and difficult fight for truth and justice. They will also serve as a
powerful symbol of what has been a momentous year for the City, with
the publication of the Hillsborough Independent Panel's report.
It is to the credit of families that they have never given up on
their quest to find out what happened on that dreadful day, and have
continued to act with dignity and bravery. Following the publication
of the report - which revealed the disastrous failings of the public
authorities on the day, and the conspiracy to shift the blame onto
fans - it is more important than ever that we continue to support
them to ensure they get the justice they deserve."
Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Councillor Sharon Sullivan, said:-
"This will be an emotional day for Liverpool which will see our City
establishing a lasting tribute to those who died at Hillsborough.
These memorials will serve as a reminder of the events of that
terrible day, and ensure no one ever forgets the sadness and
suffering it has caused in the years since. I speak on behalf of the
City in saying to the families of the 96 that we stand united behind
them, that we commend their bravery and that we will continue to
support them in their fight for justice."
