			.JPG) THE UK's Armed Forces

			Day was celebrated by events
across the UK, with Nottingham chosen as Host City this year. But,
as Liverpool was the centre for the Battle of the Atlantic
celebrations, it chose to focus on the City's historic links with
the Military and the Merchant Navy with a few events, making it more
of a week than a day. On Tuesday, 25 June 2013 the Lord Mayor,
Councillor Gary Millar officially launched Armed Forces Day in the
City, by hosting a special Civic Reception at the Town Hall to
honour local veterans, present serving Military, Merchant Navy and
Cadets. As part of the celebrations, a memorial plaque, which
honoured Stanley Abattoir workers who gave their lives in World War
II, was unveiled by the Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Cllr. Millar. The
plaque is now on public display again for the first time after
approximately 40 years. It had disappeared and recently turning up
on eBay in an auction! At the time of its rediscovery the seller, of
this memorial to the Maghull soldiers, was tracked down after a
massive public outcry. If you want to see it, it can now be seen at
its new, temporary home at the Museum of Liverpool. Then, on
Saturday, 29 June 2013, a Service of Celebration was held at
Liverpool Anglican Cathedral. This event was followed by a march by
Veterans, present serving Military and Cadets, which proceeded from
Liverpool Cathedral along Liverpool's Hope Street, as in previous
years. These photographs have kindly been taken for us by Roy Bevin,
who is also an ex-Serviceman and now photographer for the forces on
Merseyside. His photographs are of the Museum Memorial unveiling and
			also of the Cathedral events.
