North West Bard Tour
bring Shakespeare's work to a younger generation
UP The Road Theatre and the Unity
Theatre are excited to launch their new 2016 tour; a small scale Shakespeare
inspired production for 8 to 12 year olds, celebrating 400 years of
Shakespeare's work. The tour will begin at Unity Theatre, Liverpool on
Tuesday, 1 March 2016, then continues to visit schools, libraries and
theatres across England's North West, ending in The Citadel Arts Centre, St
Helens, on Sunday, 3 April 2016.
Up The Road Theatre are a new company based in Kent and are delighted to
join forces with Liverpool's Unity Theatre to create a work that explores
the Bard's role in literature, culture and history.
Bardolph's Box will inspire the younger generation and make Shakespeare fun.
The touring company compromises of 3 actors: one to play Bardolph,
Falstaff's sidekick from Henry IV's, Henry V and The Merry Wives of Windsor,
and the other two playing a host of characters from Shakespeare's plays. The
production will engage and include the audience by exploring the issues of
each character as they visit Bardolph in search of assistance, by voting and
en-masse contributions. The experienced actors will create a fun and safe
atmosphere, and encourage rather than demand interaction.
The company will focus on some of Shakespeare's lesser known plays and
characters, such as The 2 Gentlemen of Verona, The Comedy of Errors and the
Nurse from Romeo and Juliet. Their exchanges with Bardolph will include both
modern English and extracts from the plays, Bardolph himself has a quest of
his own, which the characters and audience can help with. Many young
children are initially put off from Shakespeare's complicated language, but
this production utilises Shakespeare's language in a manner that makes it
easier for a younger audience to understand.
Nicola Pollard, Director and Founder of Up The Road Theatre, said:-

to Bardolph and his wonderful world. Through an exciting myriad of
characters, we're exploring a number of Shakespeare's plays, including 'The
Comedy of Errors', 'Antony and Cleopatra', 'The Tempest' and 'Twelfth
Night'. Our audience will be encouraged to help young Bardolph on his first
big adventure, as he gets his friends out of fixes and deliberates their
dilemmas. With live music, plenty of puppetry and a good dollop of humour, 'Bardolph's
Box' is a brilliant way to celebrate Shakespeare 400th Anniversary!"

Consider yourself a
great singer? LHK Youth Theatre Auditions
LHK Youth Theatre promised it would Be Back Soon with
another amazing musical and true to its word, the company will be proudly
presenting Oliver! at The Epstein Theatre in November, 2016.
So if you can sing, dance, act and feel I'd Do Anything to star in a musical
then don't miss the auditions for this fabulous heart warming show on
Sunday, 6 March 2016, at 12noon.
The auditions will be held at The Epstein Theatre on Hanover Street where
the team at LHK Youth Theatre will be on the lookout for young talented
performers, aged between 7 and 18.
Open to both boys and girls, the youngsters must be able to sing, dance and
act. The producers are particularly looking for strong vocalists to cast in
some of the singing roles in Oliver.
Hopefuls do not need to prepare an audition piece as the production team
will put them through their paces, but don't worry; it won't be too
'gruelling'. It's A Fine Life at LHK Productions, which prides
itself on nurturing talented performers in the region and giving them the
foundations for a fabulous career in performing arts.
As well as getting the chance to star in a great show, performance will gain
invaluable stage experience working with LHK Youth Theatre, one of the
region's leading youth arts organisations.
Established by Lee Kelly, managing director of LHK Productions, 10 years
ago, the Youth Theatre has developed the talent of thousands of young people
over the past decade and previous members have gone on to become TV stars,
West End performers and entertain on cruise ships worldwide!
Lee said:- "Each year we reach out across the region to discover
exceptional new talent. Our training is based on the basic principal that
the best place for young people to learn about the performing arts is on
stage in front of a live audience. We provide a platform for young talent to
be showcased on a regional, national and international stage in iconic
theatres throughout the UK and beyond."
Following the auditions, Lee will be Reviewing the Situation and choosing
only the very best for his forthcoming production of Oliver! which promises
to be his most exciting musical yet.
Oliver! boasts stunning scenery, dazzling dance routines and marvellous
musical numbers, featuring all the famous songs including Food Glorious
Food, Where is Love? Pick a Pocket or Two, Who Will Buy? And one thing's for
sure, the show will have plenty of Oom-Pah-Pah!
The musical tells the story of the orphan Oliver Twist, who starts his life
in a workhouse and is then sold into an apprenticeship with an undertaker.
He escapes from there and travels to London where he meets the Artful
Dodger, and becomes a member of a gang of juvenile pickpockets, which is led
by the elderly criminal Fagin.
The auditions are open to all levels from beginners to advanced; so whether
you are an experience performer, or just fancy having a go, then come along
to the auditions which will be held at The Epstein Theatre on Sunday, 6

Public Warning follows lost prescription
medication
MERSEYSIDE Police has appealed for
the public to be cautious after prescription medication was believed to be
lost in Bootle on 24 February 2016. Officers received a report at about
3.50pm, on 24 February 2016, that the medication had been lost at around 2pm
in the Knowsley Road area. The medication comprises olanzapine (28 tablets),
mirtazapine (28 tablets) and fluoxetine (28 tablets). Enquiries into the
incident are still continuing. Officers are reminding people that taking any
medication which has not been prescribed for them can be dangerous and, in
some circumstances, can prove fatal. Anyone who finds any of the medication
is asked to hand it in to any Pharmacy or Police Station or Call Officers on
the:- 101 number.
