Suspected arson attack on house in Formby

MERSEYSIDE Police have issued an appeal for witnesses after a fire started at a house in Formby. We are told that Merseyside Fire service attended an address, on Southport Road, Formby, at around 2.20am, on 17 January 2017, after reports of a house fire. Upon arrival we are told that they found both the house and car on the drive were on fire. The fires are reported to have been started deliberately and is believed that this was a targeted attack. Are are also told that all 3 female occupants, in the house, were able to get out of the address and are unharmed. An investigation is underway and detectives are making both CCTV and house to house enquiries.

Detective Inspector Robert Moss said:- "This is a shocking incident that could have resulted in serious injury. This fire could have spread and endangered other people. We are increasing patrols in the area and I want to reassure our community that we are making every effort to trace and arrest the people responsible for bringing such reckless behaviour to our streets. I encourage anyone with information about this offence to come forward and talk to us on:- 0151 777 3017, via:- 101 or through Crimestoppers, anonymously, on:- 0800 555 111."

Southport BID 1st 'Open Meeting' of 2017

THE Southport BID (Business Improvement District) are holding an Open Meeting for all BID levy paying businesses and members, along with their respective representatives, on Thursday, 2 February 2017, from 6pm, at the Bold Hotel. The event at the Lord Street venue will give those attending a chance to learn more about the BID's plans for 2017. They will also get a chance to directly ask the BID team about this and other related matters.
