WLLR Halloween Specials 2013
Photograph by P. Trollope.

IT was a spooky night at the West Lancashire Light Railway Railway  (WLLR) on Sunday, 27 October 2013, as volunteers braved the wind and rain to put on the Halloween Specials... This was aimed at kids this year and despite the poor weather, it was very well attended, with families arriving throughout the afternoon in costume and returning in the evening for Round 2. As the sun set the steam locomotives that once were the backbone of British business delivered eerie blasts of sounds from their whistles and pulled passenger trains up and down the short narrow gage track. Those riding along came from all over the North West of England, and one even came from Cornwall for this event! All attending were asked to keep a look out for:- "The Tarleton Terror", "The Barmy Bishop of Becconsall", "The Headless Horse Rider from Hundred End" along with the "Girlie Ghoul from Hoole" and the "Hound from Hell..." and if they did not send shivers through your spine then the fancy dress some of the kids came in would have!!! If you attended you could also have guessed the weight of a Giant pumpkin. We have also been told that it was grown in the same field as the Giant pumpkin named:- 'HMS Pumpkin' that recently set a world record for the 100 metre paddling the pumpkin dash, on 23 October 2013, on the Solent at Trafalgar Wharf in Portsmouth. Well if you missed the fun, please take a look at our coverage on here and also take note that you have just 2 more events to go to this year... On Sunday, 17 November 2013, the WLLR will be holding its annual BBC Children in Need 2 Locos in Steam event. That event offers free train rides, but all visitors are invited to contribute to the BBC Children in Need appeal. Then, over the run up to Christmas, they will have on Saturday, 14 December, Sunday, 15 December, Saturday 21 December and Sunday, 22 December 2013 the annual Santa Specials. During this event Children can meet Santa and receive a present, along with having a steam train ride. Booking your place for the Christmas events is highly recommended to avoid disappointment as places are extremely limited! For more information about the events and the railway, along with discovering what will be on offer in 2014, log onto:- wllr.net  If you attended, please let us know your thoughts about this ghoulish event by emailing our newsroom via:- news24@southportreporter.com. Also please check our video footage out on Southport.TV, that will be online very soon!

Katie Price is all set to visit a TESCO on Merseyside

THE former glamour model and reality TV star, Katie Price, previously known by the pseudonym Jordan, is heading to Merseyside to meet fans and also to show off her new fragrances Kissable. Kissable, in accord with Katie's other perfumes, is already set to become one of this years best selling perfumes. The box alone is eye catching, as is the unique lip-shaped bottle that is lipstick-red (reflecting Katie’s famous flirty pout!). Kissable is heading to a shop near you for Christmas and is said to be both colourful and playful. So why not head down to Tesco - Bidston Moss Extra, in Prenton, on Thursday, 7 November at 2pm and see if you can snap up a distinctive treat for Christmas and meet her as well?
