Flybe connects Liverpool John Lennon Airport with Amsterdam and the world

FLYBE Europe's largest regional airline, on 7 September 2015, commenced its new service to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport from Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) giving passengers the ability to connect onwards to the host of European and long haul destinations available from this busy international hub.

The 1st flight departed from Liverpool at 7:15am, 7 September 2015, with senior airport representatives on board, who on arrival at Amsterdam just under 90 minutes later, only to be met by a delegation from Schiphol Airport.  Mark Povall, LJLA's Air Service Development Director, presented Lotte Harbers, Aviation Marketing Director for Schiphol Airport, with a special:- 'Superlambanana' gift on behalf of Liverpool to mark the occasion of the airline's inaugural flight from Liverpool to Amsterdam. The 'Superlambanana' is a famous 17ft tall sculpture located in Liverpool City Centre.

Flybe now operates up to 3 flights per day between Liverpool and Amsterdam, departing early morning, lunchtime and late afternoon and that offer the opportunity for passengers to make many convenient onward long haul connections available through Amsterdam. Destinations including:- Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Shanghai are now all accessible from Liverpool via Amsterdam.

Flybe is offering a seat sale on this brand new route for a limited time only with one way fares from £25.99 (usual price from £34.99) on bookings made between 10 September to 15 September 2015, at:- Flybe.com, effective for travel, from 9 October through to 26 March 2016.

The airline recently committed to further expansion from Liverpool by announcing a new daily service to Edinburgh which starts at the end of October. It will also be increasing capaCity on its existing Isle of Man and Belfast City services with an additional daily departure to both destinations, taking the total number of flights to and from Liverpool by Flybe to approximately 150 per week.

Flybe's Chief Commercial Officer, Paul Simmons, said:- "Flybe is delighted to play a part in making it possible for Liverpool customers to access the world through Amsterdam and, just as importantly, make it easier for the rest of the world to come to Liverpool. We already have a number of codeshare and interline arrangements with long haul carriers that, in the future, have the potential to benefit passengers even further."

Andrew Cornish, CEO of Liverpool John Lennon Airport commented:- "In the past, re-establishing a 'hub link' from Liverpool has been the most requested service by stakeholders and passengers across the Liverpool City Region. Both business and leisure passengers are now able to take advantage of the convenience of being able to start their long haul journeys from their home airport, as well as bringing a further boost for the region's tourism offer and inward investment opportunities."

To further mark the launch of the new route, LJLA has partnered with influential travel bloggers to set a series of challenges in the cultural City of Amsterdam. Exploring the European hotspot, the bloggers will be competing against the clock to uncover hidden treasures and attractions across the City.  All of the action from the blogger challenge can be tracked using the hashtag:- #LJLADAM24.
