| Superstore plan
for Stonebridge Business Park A new supermarket in the
Stonebridge Cross area, Croxteth, is set to create 300 local jobs
and drive forward the on-going regeneration of the area.
Cabinet has approved plans for the City Council to complete the
purchase of land at Stonebridge Business Park, for the development
			of a new food superstore.

The scheme, for a 6,600msq food store and petrol filling station at
the site, was passed by planning committee last June. The completion
of the deal for the land would allow talks to be finalised with a
major chain over a new supermarket, along with associated small
shops, a café and restaurants; creating a new local centre for the
			neighbourhood.

The plans support the wider regeneration of the 90 acre Stonebridge
Cross development site, which will also include a major distribution
centre, a health centre, community hub and a new building to house
			St John Bosco Arts College.

The overall scheme, when completed, will create more than 1,000 new
			jobs.

Once the City Council completes the acquisition of the land, which
is currently owned by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) it
will be transferred to Regeneration Liverpool, the Council's
regeneration joint venture with Sigma Inpartnership.

This will enable Regeneration Liverpool to crystalise current
interest from a major foodstore operator by entering into legal
agreements, so that development and construction can begin on site.

Mayor of Liverpool, Joe Anderson, said:- "These are exciting
times for the Croxteth community. Stonebridge Cross is an area that
has been neglected for too long, but we are now beginning to make
significant progress in driving forward its regeneration.  The
acquisition of this land at Stonebridge Park for a new supermarket
is another important milestone for the area, and supports our plans
to provide much-needed jobs, along with improved shopping, leisure
and education facilities for local people.  It forms part of my
Mayoral priorities plans to create 20,000 new jobs for our City and
build 12 hi-tech secondary, primary and special schools."

It is the latest piece of the jigsaw in the development of the
Stonebridge Cross area. In November, developers Gallan Estates and
Stoford were granted detailed planning consent for a major
distribution centre, which would provide 1.25m sq ft of warehouse
floor space on a 68 acre site, suitable for large scale distribution
			companies.

The construction of the new St John Bosco Arts College by
Regeneration Liverpool is also progressing well and is scheduled for
completion in September 2014. And the land assembly works necessary
to deliver the new health centre are currently underway.

Indecent act on West Kirby train
leads to release of CCTV image

CAN you help British Transport Police trace a
man who performed an indecent act on himself whilst travelling on a
train to West Kirby? The incident happened at 7pm on
New Year's Eve on board a Merseyrail service heading to West Kirby.
PC Colin Pattison said:- "A 20 year old woman was in a
carriage of the train and was minding her own business when a man
also entered the carriage. As the journey progressed, she noticed
the man was covering his groin with his jacket, but was clearly
performing an indecent act on himself. This continued for some time
until the woman informed the train guard. The man then ran from the
train when it arrived at West Kirby. I have managed to isolate the
image of a man from CCTV and I believe he will have key information
about the incident. If you recognise him, or have information about
the incident, please come forward and get in touch."  If you can assist the investigation in any way please call British
Transport Police on:- 0800 40 50 40 or Crimestoppers, anonymously,
on:- 0800 555 111. In all calls please quote log:- NWA/B8 of

Merseyside residents show their support for local animal centres
			by donating £4,500
MERSEYSIDE residents have revealed themselves to be animal
lovers by donating over £4,500 to help local animal charities this
festive season, as part of the nationwide Santa Paws campaign.
Organised by independent animal charity Support Adoption For Pets,
and supported by Pets at Home, the annual campaign aims to raise
			awareness of homeless pets.

Running from 1 December to 24 December 2013, pet owners were asked to either donate
50p to pay for a pet's Christmas dinner or to buy an extra toy or
treat when they were buying something for their own furry friend.

Stores in Merseyside raised £4,541.45, with the Pets at Home store
in Speke raising nearly 40% of the total, which will go to help Dogs
Trust merseyside. The rest of the money will go to support Shy Lowen
Horse & pony Sancutary, Warrington Animal Welfare, Animal Aid and
			Woodlands Animal Sanctuary.

Amy Wilson, charity manager at Support Adoption For Pets explains:-
"It's down to the hard work and enthusiasm of Pets at Home
customers and colleagues in Merseyside that we are able to raise so
much money. We'd like to say a massive thank you to everyone who
came in store and supported the campaign helping us to raise over
£4,500.  The 2013 Santa Paws initiative was the first time we
introduced the 'donate a pet dinner' initiative which has enabled us
nationally to donate 553,120 pet dinners over the course of the
appeal. In addition we were also able to raise £291,674.90 which
will go to helping a host of UK pet rehoming centres."

 Greens take
			Government on over austerity agenda
			THE Green Party condemn "socially
ignorant" Brighton and Hove Conservative MPs and Councillors
defying their own party policy by refusing to support a Council Tax
			Referendum in Brighton
The Green Party has condemned Mike Weatherley, the Conservative
Member of Parliament for Hove and Portslade, and Simon Kirby, the
Conservative MP for Brighton Kemptown for going against their own
party's policy on Council Tax Referendums.

As a response to Central Government cuts, the minority Green
administration in Brighton is proposing a referendum of local people
on a Council Tax rise to protect services for the City's most
			vulnerable.

Both Brighton and Hove Tory MP's appear to support the Labour party
			in Brighton in opposing a

			referendum.

Weatherley and Kirby's opinions are in direct opposition to those of
Communities Secretary Eric Pickles that Councils are "dodging
democracy" by not holding referendums on Council Tax rises
and his deputy, local government minister Brandon Lewis who said:-
"This government has given local residents new powers to veto
high Council Tax rises. We should trust the

			people."

Natalie Bennett, the leader of the Green Party, said:- "As
Greens we believe that decisions should be made closest to the
people who are affected. Instead of letting Whitehall impose cuts on
vulnerable people in Brighton and Hove, this announcement takes the
decision to the people. Three quarters of County Councils and a 3rd
of other Councils have already indicated that they plan to increase
Council Tax to meet growing need and mitigate the worst of
Westminster's cuts. Only the Green Party is taking a courageous
stand and we call for other Councils to consider letting the people
			decide."
